Naoshima Golden Week 2027: Closed Days & Booking Tips
Golden Week 2027 falls between Thursday April 29 and Wednesday May 5, and the closure rules on Naoshima, Teshima and Inujima do not line up the way you might expect.
The official site’s rule for Monday-closed museums is that they are open on national holidays and closed the following day. The official calendar page we could read did not show 2027 entries, so confirm each day there before you book. This article applies the official wording to the 2027 calendar and marks what is our own reading. Checked on 5 November 2026.

What the Official Rules Say
- Monday-closed facilities (Chichu, Lee Ufan Museum, Naoshima New Museum of Art, ANDO MUSEUM, Art House Project, I♥湯): “Open on Mondays for national holidays but closed the next day.”
- Our reading: May 3 is a Monday holiday, so these should be open, and the following day may be closed. The site does not say how the rule works when the next day is itself a holiday (May 4), so verify May 4 on the official calendar before planning around it.
- Benesse House Museum is open year-round, and the Sugimoto Gallery is also listed as open year-round.
- Ring of Fire is listed as closed Monday to Thursday with no holiday exception stated, which would mean closed on April 29 and May 3 to 5 if read literally.
- Inujima art facilities are closed Tuesday to Thursday from March 1 to November 30 but open on national holidays, so they should be open on April 29 and May 4 and 5 (all holidays).
- Teshima Art Museum is closed Tuesdays; the page says it is open on national holidays but closed the next day, and open on a Tuesday after a Monday holiday but closed the next day. May 4 and 5 are tricky, so check the calendar.

When to Book
Chichu’s online tickets are released at 10:00 on the 5th of each month for the month two months ahead, according to our Chichu ticket guide. On that rule, April dates open on February 5 and May dates on March 5. Chichu is closed until March 19, 2027, for maintenance. Other timed sites are in our reservation guide.
Finding Naoshima Note: We have no official crowd numbers for Golden Week, so we are not making any. What is certain is that timed slots are limited, so book early and keep a backup. See our visiting tips.
