Healing Cottage OHANA Naoshima: Rooms, Price & How to Book

If you’ve already read our introduction to Healing Cottage OHANA and you’re picturing yourself waking up three minutes from the beach with your whole group under one roof, this guide is the practical follow-up. Here’s what the two villas actually look like inside, what they cost to find out, and exactly how to reserve one.

What Healing Cottage OHANA Actually Is

3. Customization: Your Art Island, Your Pace — Finding Naoshima Tours Marks One Year of Custom Art Journeys and 30 Happy Groups

OHANA sits in the southern part of Naoshima, right up against the Setonaikai National Park, close enough to Gotanji Beach that you can be in the water three minutes after leaving the front door. It’s also a three-minute walk to the bus stop nearest the museum area, so you’re not cut off from the art side of the island either.

The property was built by a local Naoshima construction company, and it shows — the two villas lean into the warmth and scent of real wood rather than the generic feel of a standard rental. Both are self-contained, two-story houses rather than hotel rooms, which is the whole point if you’re traveling as a group.

Finding Naoshima Note: The same people behind Healing Cottage OHANA also run Finding Naoshima Tour — one guest review on the tour page specifically mentions how comfortable “the cottage you operate” was. If you’re already booking a guided day on the island, staying here means your host and your guide can be the same person, a level of continuity you won’t get from a hotel chain.

The Two Villas: Kai and Lani

VillaMeaningSideStructureCapacity (official)
Kai“Sea Side”Facing the waterSelf-contained, two floors8–10 people
Lani“Mountain Side”Facing the hillsSelf-contained, two floors8–10 people

Both are whole-house rentals — you’re not sharing a floor or a kitchen with anyone else’s booking. That makes OHANA a genuinely different option from the minshuku and guesthouses covered in our area-by-area stay guide, most of which rent by the room rather than the building.

Inside the Cottage: Layout and Amenities

We could confirm the detailed layout for one of the two villas through its official Airbnb listing:

DetailInformation
Bedroom (1F)6 single beds
Japanese-style room (2F)Space for 2 futon sets
Bathroom1, full facilities
KitchenFull kitchen with IH cooktop, microwave, toaster, rice cooker, cooking utensils
LaundryWashing machine and dryer, detergent provided
Climate & extrasAir conditioning, air purifier, Wi-Fi, TV, hair dryer, steam iron
ParkingFree, on-site
OutdoorBBQ yard (rental BBQ set available, ¥2,000)

Finding Naoshima Note: The official page lists capacity for each villa as 8–10 people, but the Airbnb listing we checked caps out at 8 guests for its bed configuration. That’s a small enough gap to matter if you’re booking for exactly 9 or 10 — message the host directly before you commit to a headcount, rather than assuming the higher number applies to your dates.

House Rules Worth Knowing Before You Book

  • Check-in is 3:00 PM, check-out is 10:00 AM for the listed villa — confirm this matches if you’re booking the other cottage, since we couldn’t verify both run on identical times.
  • No smoking indoors. The 2nd-floor balcony is the only permitted smoking spot.
  • Quiet hours after 9:00 PM — worth flagging if your group is planning a lively BBQ night.
  • ID verification is required from all guests before arrival.
  • Fireworks are not permitted on the property.

How to Book

The official Healing Cottage OHANA page points bookers to Airbnb rather than a direct reservation form. As of this writing, one villa is listed here: OHANA on Airbnb.

Finding Naoshima Note: Airbnb only shows a nightly price once you’ve entered your actual dates — there’s no flat rate posted on the listing itself. Plug in your travel dates early, since a two-villa, whole-house property like this is exactly the kind of listing that gets booked out well ahead of the Setouchi Triennale and other high-season stretches.

Who Is This Actually For?

3. Customization: Your Art Island, Your Pace — Finding Naoshima Tours Marks One Year of Custom Art Journeys and 30 Happy Groups

OHANA makes the most sense for groups and families who want to stay together under one roof rather than split across separate hotel rooms — and who’d rather cook a shared meal in a real kitchen than hunt for a restaurant that’s still open after dark (a real risk on Naoshima, as we cover in our trip-length planning guide). If you want a more hands-off, hotel-style stay instead, our guide to Tsutsujiso’s cottages and yurts — a similar whole-property option elsewhere on the island — is worth comparing against before you decide.
