How Much Does a Naoshima Trip Really Cost?

Every individual piece of a Naoshima trip is documented somewhere on this site — ferry fares, museum tickets, tour pricing — but nobody adds them up for you. Here’s the real number, built entirely from prices we’ve already verified, with the gaps flagged honestly rather than papered over.
The Ferry

A one-way ticket between Uno and Naoshima runs ¥370, whether you take the car ferry or the passenger boat (see our ferry timetable guide). Round trip, that’s ¥740.
Museum Tickets (Weekday, Booked Online)

| Museum | Weekday Online Price |
|---|---|
| Chichu Art Museum | ¥2,500 |
| Naoshima New Museum of Art | ¥1,500 |
| Benesse House Museum | ¥1,300 |
| Lee Ufan Museum | ¥1,200 |
| Art House Project (5-house common ticket) | ¥1,200 |
Cover all five in one day and you’re at ¥7,700 in tickets alone — before weekend surcharges, which push Chichu up to ¥2,700 on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
Finding Naoshima Note: Nobody actually needs to hit all five headline sites in a single day (and trying to is a good way to feel rushed). Use this table to build your own realistic subset rather than assuming the full ¥7,700 applies to you.
DIY vs. Guided Tour — Where the Numbers Actually Diverge

This is the comparison most people are really trying to make, and it’s worth being precise about what a guided tour price does and doesn’t include:
| DIY | Guided Tour | |
|---|---|---|
| Ferry | ¥740 (self-paid) | Included in tour price |
| Transport on the island | Bus/bike fares (self-paid) | Included (private transport) |
| Guide | — | ¥30,000 (1 person) down to ¥10,000/person (5–8 people) |
| Museum tickets | Self-paid, same table as above | Not included — billed separately, per our tour cost guide |
The guided tour fee covers the guide and private transportation only. It’s easy to assume a ¥30,000 tour price is “all-in,” and it isn’t — you’re still paying museum admission on top, whether DIY or guided.
A Realistic DIY Day-Trip Total

Stacking only the costs we’ve directly verified:
| Item | Cost |
|---|---|
| Ferry (round trip) | ¥740 |
| Museum tickets (5 sites) | ¥7,700 |
| Food (lunch + dinner, per our dinner guide) | ¥3,000–6,000 |
| Core total, per person | ~¥11,500–14,500 |
This deliberately excludes island bus/bike fares (small, but not yet confirmed to a specific figure) and souvenirs — it’s the floor, not a padded estimate.
If You’re Staying Overnight

Budget accommodation on Naoshima starts around ¥3,000 a night for a dorm bed, based on our own research into the island’s guesthouses. For whole-house rentals like Healing Cottage OHANA or Tsutsujiso, we couldn’t confirm a fixed nightly rate in this pass — Airbnb-style listings price by date rather than posting a flat rate, so check directly before you budget around a specific number.
The Honest Summary

A no-frills DIY day trip covering the major museums lands around ¥11,500–14,500 per person before accommodation. Add a guided tour and you’re adding the guide fee on top of, not instead of, your ticket costs. Add an overnight stay and budget accommodation starts around ¥3,000/night, with whole-house options priced per booking rather than a flat nightly rate.
