Hiroshima to Naoshima: Train, Ferry & Pass Options
To go from Hiroshima to Naoshima, take the Sanyo Shinkansen to Okayama, change to the JR Uno Line for Uno (about 50 minutes), walk to Uno Port and take the ferry to Miyanoura (about 20 minutes, ¥370 adult).
The Shinkansen leg’s duration and fare were not stated on the official pages we read, so check them on the day. What is confirmed is below, with pass details from the official JR sites, checked on 5 November 2026.
The Route
- Hiroshima to Okayama on the Sanyo Shinkansen. Both the Hikari and other trains run on the line, but the official pages do not list which stop at both stations, and the travel time is not stated. Check the JR timetable.
- Okayama to Uno on the JR Uno Line, about 50 minutes according to the ferry operator’s access page.
- Uno Station to Uno Port, about 5 minutes on foot.
- Ferry to Miyanoura, about 20 minutes. Adult ¥370 one way, child ¥190. Departures from Uno run 06:10 to 20:25, and the last boat from Miyanoura to Uno is 20:25. No reservations are taken, and tickets are first come, first served.

Get the Exact Times and Fares
The official JR West fare and timetable tools (for example the MyDia search on the JR West site) give the Hiroshima–Okayama Shinkansen time and fare and the Okayama–Uno Line times for your date. We could not retrieve those figures from an official page, so we do not quote them here. Enter Hiroshima, Okayama and Uno for your travel day, and work backward from the ferry times above.

JR West says the Okayama-Hiroshima-Yamaguchi Area Pass price was current as of August 1, 2024, so confirm the latest price. The page does not name the Uno Line in its text, so we could not confirm whether the pass covers the Uno Line. Check JR West’s coverage map before relying on it. The Japan Rail Pass site says Nozomi and Mizuho are not covered, but a separate Nozomi/Mizuho ticket can be bought with a valid pass.
Finding Naoshima Note: A pass for this route alone is rarely worth it. The Uno ferry is not covered by any JR pass, and the Uno Line is a short ride. Buy a pass only if you are already traveling widely on JR.
Plan the Day Around the Last Boat
